A long history
In 1954, Jean Cauvin and his wife took over management of the Casino in Planches also calling it Le Baraquement, rebuilt quickly after the war. Then followed several happy years when locals and soldiers of the CM39 based in Saint-Valéry-en-Caux jumped at the chance to see débuts by Jacques Brel, Raymond Devos, Philippe Clay, Serge Gainsbourg, Gilbert Bécaud, Boris Vian and many others.
1960 marked the inauguration of the “Casino en Verre” with the opening of a cinema which is still in operation. Galas followed. Hundreds of spectators applauded Claude François, Sylvie Vartan, Adamo, Pierre Perret and … Brel, Bécaud, Devos, now stars, who emotionally rediscovered the St Valéry of their débuts. However as the trend changed to major concerts in huge venues, it was no longer possible to have galas in the Casino … In 1968, the Pub Club opened, a disco for older people which was invaded by young people from the first night! The Pub Club was the meeting place for thousands of dancers from the Normandy coast, an institution where many couples got together!
